Cousin, not his victim, gets family’s support in abuse case
Dear Carolyn: My cousin, 17 years older than I, has been convicted of sexual abuse to his young teen daughter. My immediate family are deeply, completely certain he’s been wronged and it’s a vendetta by his ex.
This man chased me as a small child for hugs and kisses — even when I was screaming in terror. I reminded my family of this. They told me it was harmless and to stop being dramatic.
We live in a different country but have long calls each week. My gut tells me I need to pull away with my kids, as this attitude is so wrong to me. Whoever is right, a child is clearly hurt here.
But I’m hesitant in case I’m overreacting. I could do with some perspective,please.Protecting my kids is key, right?
