| ((Nick Galifianakis for The Post)) | Husband uses spouse like a Google search bar Dear Carolyn: Something snapped in me the other day when I realized my husband of 30 years tends to use me as Google instead of doing the research himself. “You want to hire this contractor, is there a better one?” “Where are we going to go and what are we going to do on vacation?” “Where should we go to dinner?” And even better, “What should I do after I retire?” On the one hand, I appreciate that he is asking my opinion. On the other hand, my opinions are most often then rejected out of hand, or I am inundated with requests for follow-up reasoning for WHY I made a particular choice or know a particular fact. Maybe it’s analysis paralysis, but I’d just like him to switch shoes and do some research and make a decision! How do I maintain my cool now that I bristle every time we have an exchange like this? — Tired of Being Google Carolyn’s been writing her advice column for two decades. Explore the archives below. | |
