Can’t afford the bachelorette, so she’s fired from the bridal party
Dear Carolyn: A good college friend asked me to beinher wedding party. I was honest and explained that I would love to but couldn’t afford a bachelorette extravaganza. Bride said she was doing something low-key, local. I happily accepted.
Then, bride planned a two-night, out-of-town, hotel-plus-car-rental-plus-expensive-dinner bachelorette party. I am working part time, finishing up my social-work degree and living with my sister. I’m broke! I declined the bachelorette party.
Bride sent a text (!) letting me know I’ve been replaced in the bridal party. I called her, left a message. I’ve not heard back.
The wedding is in two weeks. I did get an invitation, sent after her text replacing me. Should I go? I will know a lot of people there, but I just feel yucky that the bride has not talked to me in over a month. I feel like I’m being punished for her poor behavior. But I want to do the right thing here.
