| (Nick Galifianakis for The Post) | Does her running group buddy have a secret drinking problem? Dear Carolyn: I am in a running group with three other middle-aged moms like me. I wouldn’t say I am great friends with any of them, but we do have wide-ranging conversations about our lives, so I’ve gotten to know them all, and I love and admire each of them in their own ways. The woman I know best is married to an entrepreneur and she is the breadwinner. She once offhandedly told me that the only two issues she and her husband fight about are her money and her drinking. I thought nothing of it. We have been out socially many many times, and I have never once seen her drunk or even tipsy. She is a very controlled person. And yet here’s the thing I can’t shake: Whenever we run, I smell alcohol. I have Googled: Does some people’s sweat smell like alcohol even if they are not alcoholic? And the results are mixed. I can’t imagine she is running after drinking. Our runs are usually at 8 a.m.! But what is the other explanation? It is a very strong smell. What should I do about this? Or should I just ignore it? — I Have a Good Nose Carolyn’s been writing her advice column for two decades. Explore the archives below. | |
