Did the only chance to make peace die with estranged sister?
Dear Carolyn: I did not make peace with my sister before she died in 2023. We were close as young adults but had an enormous fight a decade ago when our parents were both dying, and we never recovered from that. I tell myself that I was close to reaching out for reconciliation when my sister died very quickly from pancreatic cancer. Our two other siblings maintained good relationships with both of us, and now I find it painful to be around even them, because they had several years of positive memories with her that I was not a part of.
Is this pain I will just have to live with, since I failed to sort this out when there was time? How do I heal when the other person involved is gone now?
